Ballhawks/OVA Code of Conduct/Ethics
A. Coaching Code of Ethics
All of our coaches must abide by the Ontario Volleyball Coaching Code of Ethics. The code is taken from the Volleyball Canada Coaches Manual Level 1 and was written by the Coaching Association of Canada and the Canadian Professional Coaches Association. The Code outlines the principles of respect for the participants, responsible coaching, integrity in relationships and honoring sport. For a more detailed description see the Provincial Indoor Competitions Manual located on the Ontario Volleyball Association website: www.ontariovolleyball.org or contact Peter Jones to arrange a viewing.
B. Code of Conduct for Players
Each player involved with our Club should be aware that in the eyes of the public they not only represent themselves but also the Chatham Ballhawks and the sport of volleyball. Every player should note that the privilege of representing the Ballhawks is accompanied by the expectation of reasonable competitive effort and by complete responsibility for his/her behaviour at all times (both on and off the court). Each player’s behaviour is to be in accordance with reasonable standards of courtesy, respect and reliability. All of the qualities normally designated by the term “good sportsmanship” will be expected. Therefore, all players with the Ballhawks Volleyball Club will be expected to abide by the following Code of Conduct:
1. Appropriate behaviour is mandatory. When the coaches, executive and/or chaperones accompanying teams deem behaviour unacceptable, that player will be disciplined. Discipline will be at the discretion of the Coach and/or Club Executive.
2. Players will not be allowed to smoke, drink or carry alcoholic beverages, nor use drugs other than those prescribed by a physician.
3. Foul language of any sort will not be tolerated towards any players, coach, parent, chaperone or officials.
4. Players and parents understand the responsibilities involved in being a Team member in terms of proper conduct and willingness to participate in practices and tournaments.
5. Demonstrate courtesy and respect toward officials, managers, coaches and fellow players. Understand that players are under the direction of team staff during all team functions.
6. Strive for excellence. Exhibit qualities of good sportsmanship, dedication, pride, team spirit and leadership.
7. Wear approved team apparel/uniforms during tournaments. Part of being a team is looking like a team.
8. Respect facility rules and property whether its our own practice facilities or those at out of town tournaments.
C. Code of Conduct for Parents
1. Parents must conduct themselves as good representatives of the Club and as responsible role models for our athletes.
2. It is important that parents respect and support the coaches.
3. It is expected that parents will demonstrate courtesy and respect toward officials, managers, coaches and fellow parents. Failure to do so could lead to suspension from team activities.
D. Risk Management
The Chatham Ballhawks Volleyball Club abides by the Ontario Volleyball Association risk management policy. For a more detailed description of the policy go to the OVA web site under resources.
