CHATHAM BALLHAWKS VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS 2009-2010

Thank you for your interest in joining one of our teams. Tryouts will be held at CKSS ( 285 McNaughton Street East). Tryouts will take place on September 20 & 27, and October 4th (only exception is the 14U Boys & Girls teams). Individuals trying out for the teams should be prepared to attend all sessions. Please read the section on parent and player expectations if you are planning on trying out for our teams.  

Groups times are as follows:

1:00 Girls 14U: born in 1996 or 97   Final tryout for the 14U Girls White team will be October 15th at St. Vincent School (7:00-8:30).

2:30 Girls 15U: born in 95 Boys 14U: born in 96,97. Please note that the 14U Boys will have an additional tryout on Wednesday, October 7 from 7:30-9:00 at CKSS.

4:00 Girls 16U: born in 94 Boys 15U: born in 95

5:30 Boys 16U: born in 94 Girls 17U: born in 93

CKSS Practice times for Ballhawks teams will either be on Monday or Wednesday nights this year.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE FOR 2009/2010

Regular practices for Ballhawk teams will be held at CKSS. They begin the week of October 4. Any additional practice times will be scheduled at the discretion of team coaches. Practices are from 7:30 to 9:15.

PLAYERS AND PARENTS: EXPECTATIONS

The following is a brief outline of the coaches’ responsibilities and expectations of both the players and parents in the Chatham Ballhawks Volleyball Club. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Executive.

Practices and Tournaments:

  1. Coaches will discuss their expectations for practices and tournaments with their players. Advanced notice (with valid reason) to the coach is expected for missing practices or tournaments. Each team will have at least one practice per week during the season and usually two before a tournament.
  2. Teams will not practice during the Christmas holidays or during March Break, unless otherwise arranged by the coach.
  3. Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) tournaments are held approximately once a month but it is possible that coaches may seek out additional tournaments or games. Parents are expected to ensure that their player attends these tournaments and car-pooling is encouraged. Please check the OVA website - www.ontariovolleyball.org for the schedule of tournaments and other information (Tournament listings are also listed on our website under the calendar tab). Then please check possible conflicts with other sports, etc. so that your child can commit to attending each of our Ballhawks tournaments.
    N.B. If this commitment cannot be made, we ask that you reconsider registering with the Chatham Ballhawks.
  4. Players and parents are also expected to support the Club at tournaments hosted by the CBVC. Players and parents could be asked to help with the concession and scoring for at least one tournament. If a team is participating in the tournament, and their team does not advance to the playoffs, they will be asked to stay and help.
  5. Players and parents must understand that playing time in tournaments is earned, not automatic. Our coaches try to ensure that everyone is given time to develop, and show, their skills in game situations during the season. However, this is “Club” volleyball with no guarantees on playing time. A player’s desire, commitment, execution of skills, specialized positioning and an understanding of team play all contribute to a player's time on the court in tournaments.
